Every ministry has a story, but this one has always been about God's faithfulness. What began as a step of obedience has grown into a movement that has impacted thousands of lives.
HISTORY
Mercy International didn’t begin with a strategic plan. It began with a man who paid attention. More than 50 years ago, Dr. John Leininger first traveled to Haiti and was deeply moved by the spiritual and physical needs he witnessed.
He listened to people’s stories, prayed with families, and responded with a simple conviction that has guided Mercy ever since: when you see a need and you can help, you don’t walk away. That conviction led Dr. John to return to Haiti more than 100 times over the years, building relationships and responding faithfully as needs arose.
What began as simple acts of obedience grew into Mercy International — a faith-based non-profit serving communities through housing, education, medical clinics, churches, and care for the most vulnerable. Today, Dr. John remains actively involved as a board member and trusted voice.
Mercy International has remained committed to the people of Haiti. Through earthquakes, hurricanes, political unrest, and seasons of uncertainty, we haven't rushed in and left.
We've stayed. We've built lasting relationships, strengthened local churches, invested in future generations, and walked alongside families through both hardship and hope.
We believe lasting transformation doesn't happen overnight. It happens through faithful presence, long-term commitment, and the hope found in Jesus Christ.

This story doesn't belong to one person. It belongs to every church, teacher, medical professional, volunteer, donor, and friend who has faithfully said yes to what God is doing through Mercy International.
